Guns

Because of this, hate speech is now easier than ever. White supremacists use guns to intimidate, threaten and attack political opponents. Armed opposition is a hallmark for hate groups and civilian paramilitary organisations. The public will not feel threatened by violent, ideological and racial extremists if they are disarmed with guns.

Hate

Last year, Jason Hayes, a member of the LGBTQ community from New Jersey, organized a national rally to stop gun violence and protect LGBTQ civil rights. The rally, called DISARM HATES, attracted nine people from Los Angeles to support Jason's cause. As a companion bill to Hate Crimes Prevention Act (which is already in Congress), this bill is now in Congress. This Act would ban those convicted for misdemeanor hate crime from possessing or purchasing firearms.

Gun laws

A new federal bill, known as the Disarm Hate Act, would prevent would-be gun buyers from buying guns if they have committed a hate crime. The Disarm Hate Act will not only apply to hate crimes laws in other states, but also would prohibit those convicted from purchasing guns. The Disarm Hate Act would also require background checks on prospective gun buyers, a requirement that is already required by the FBI.

Extreme risk laws

To stop mass shootings and gun murder, extremist risk laws were established. This law allows petitioners to request a judge temporarily to take a gun from someone potentially dangerous. The laws have yet to be widely adopted, but some states are applying them. These laws can be used to prevent mass shootings and gun-homicides in certain cases. These are just a few examples.

Pulse nightclub shooting

Disarm Hate follows nine LGBTQ people as they rally across the country to end gun violence, and protect their civil rights. In the film, narrated by Harvey Fierstein, the activists battle the NRA and fight for gun reform. They challenge America's obsession about gun violence. Let's take a look at this film.

Sandy Hook Promise

The Sandy Hook Promise to Disarm Hate Act has been supported by a number of groups including the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence and Gays Against Guns. This legislation was presented last year as a response to the Pulse shooting which claimed 49 victims. But, the bill died in committee. Sen. Casey reintroduced it this year following the tragic anniversary Pulse. Even though the Disarm Hate Act remains a long way off being enacted by Congress, the community can still take steps to make it happen.
