How To

How to hunt wild hogs

Wild hogs are large animals found in North America, Africa, Asia, and Europe. Wild hogs are omnivores. They eat plants and small animals like rabbits, mice and birds. They feed mostly at night. After six months of gestation, one piglet is born. Every two years, a sow will give birth to a piglet. Wild hogs are often solitary but can live in groups known as herds.

Wild boars are 200 pounds (90 kilograms) in weight. Their head length ranges between 10-12 inches (20-25 cm) and 20-30 inches (30-50 cm) respectively. Wild pigs have short tails, long legs and broad shoulders. They have a thick fat layer beneath their skin.

They have a very strong sense of smell, hearing, and sight. They use their senses to identify danger and find food. They can run upto 35 miles an hour (56 km/h), and can jump up to 15 feet (4m) in a single bound. They have sharp teeth. They are aggressive when defending themselves against predators.

Hunting wild hogs are difficult because they are fast, intelligent, and elusive. They must be carefully tracked by hunters. Hunters should not shoot too quickly. The animal might escape. If hunters shoot too late, the animal may die before it reaches cover.

There are many methods of hunting wild hogs. The most common method is shooting. This requires hunters to locate the animal and wait for it to arrive in range. Another method is trapping. Setting traps near water sources is another method of trapping. A trap may contain a scent lure such as peanut butter and corn meal. When the trap is opened, the hunter shoots a trapped pig.

Snaring, another method, is also an option. To catch the pig, snaring uses a rope-covered noose. It is most effective if the pigs are caught in its mating period.

Other methods include spearing, netting, and poisoning. For a pig to stop breathing, netting or spearing involves putting a net or spear around its neck. Poisoning involves injecting poison into the pig's body.

Hunters who wish to hunt wild hogs need to be prepared for the cold weather. For warmth, hunters may need to wear snowshoes in certain areas. To help track animals, some hunters have dogs.
